Sending Congratulations to Her Majesty The Queen as She Celebrates Platinum Jubilee

The Sheffield Assay Office team is known to share in both the joys and grieves of the entire British People.

To commemorate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the Sheffield Assay Office team sent Her Majesty a gift, accompanied by a letter from the Assay Master, Ashley Carson. The gift was a Silver Sardine Tin designed and made by Rebecca Joselyn.

The letter reads:

“On behalf of myself and the staff at Sheffield Assay Office, we want to wish you many congratulations as you celebrate your Platinum Jubilee Anniversary. It is with great pleasure that the Sheffield Assay Office has been able to hallmark many commemorative articles of precious metal with the Platinum Jubilee Hallmark since January 1st, 2022 and will continue to do so until the end of the year.”

The Sheffield Assay Office has been promoting the Platinum Jubilee Hallmark and would like to give you a small gift to commemorate the occasion. We believe you will not have one of these in your collection, as they are truly one-of-a-kind and therefore quite different. Her Majesty received a Rebecca Joselyn sardine sauce pot made in Sterling Silver with an 18-Carat Guild interior and hallmarked with the commemorative Platinum Jubilee Hallmark from the Sheffield Assay Office.”

“We commissioned Rebecca to produce two Silver Sardine Sauce Pots, one to gift to yourself and the other to add to the Sheffield Assay Office collection as a reminder of this special occasion,” the Assay Master continued.

Rebecca is inspired by our hectic lifestyles of convenience and examines the materials we take for granted and discard daily. Her tableware explores how the use of different materials can alter our perceptions of objects and their acceptance in society.

Rebecca’s piece not only adorned the Queen’s residence, but also the Sheffield Assay Office, as it joined a long line of commemorative hallmarked pieces dating back to Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation in 1953, her Silver Jubilee in 1977, Golden Jubilee in 2002, Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and sadly, still part of the mourning of Her Majesty’s passing away in September 2022.

On the 10th of June, Sheffield Assay Office was delighted to receive a letter from Susan Rhodes, Her Majesty’s Lady in Waiting, thanking the Assay Master and staff for the kind message and gift on behalf of the Queen.

She said, “The Queen was touched by the present and is most grateful for your thoughtless in writing at this time.”

Also, we join the world over in mourning the peaceful exit of Her Majesty at the age of 96 and fondly remember her as the foundation upon which Britain was built. Lastly, we wish to use this medium to mourn an inspiring figure who guided the country through some of its most difficult and trying times with grace, decency, kindness, and genuine caring warmth.
